Importance of economic relation between NRW and the Netherlands

In Düsseldorf, capital of North-Rhine Westphalia (NRW), over 750 affiliates of Dutch companies are domiciled. 40% of the Dutch exports to Germany go to NRW. In 2010 trade between NRW and the Netherlands has been up to 20 percent on the previous year.

Cross-border businesses require seamless mobility

Another important aspect for the City of Düsseldorf to join the RoCK project is the increasing number of medium-sized businesses on both sides of the border wanting to cooperate closely. Taking into account the also increasing number of cross-border commuters and Dutch air passengers departing from Düsseldorf Airport there is a need for a high quality IC rail network connecting Randstad/North-Brabant and Düsseldorf.

In this respect, the RoCK project for Düsseldorf has the motto:
